Researching Models-Poses For My Front Cover

I researched through the front covers of magazines to decide on what poses my own models would use for my classical magazine. The images I have selected here are of models who could feature on the front cover of any classical magazine and I wanted to develop some ideas as to how my own models should pose on my own magazine. This proved invaluable to me as on the day of the photoshoot, I knew what I was looking for and what would look best on the front cover of a music magazine, which made the whole process a lot easier. From these pictures, I was able to look at the make up, body posture, colours, lighting and background of the magazines which helped me to make the right choices when I took the pictures of my models.

From this, I was able to not only think about the image on the front cover, but double page spead and contents page so all in all, the research of these different types of images; although they were not used for a classical music magazine, from previuos research I can say that these images can feature on a classical music magazine.

I learnt about the different camera shots, the majority of the shots being medium shots or close ups. Taking this into consideration, and the fact that to look sophisticated, most classical musicians featured on magazine are female and wear dresses; I was able to buy dresses for my models and also decide on the camera shots to use on them. The dress are either long or short which is why for one model I brought a gown from 'House Of Fraser' costing me £120 and a short dress for my other model from 'New Look' costing me £30. I realised that if I was going to make my magazine attractive, I would need a striking dress which can only be purchased from high class shops therfore I visited Bluewater Shopping Centre on Saturday 4th December and then planned the Photoshoot for Sunday 5th December. I am very pleased with the results as my models look elegant and I used a variety of camera shots to appeal to the readers.

This research enabled me to use a diverse range of poses for my models and I strongly feel that if any of the photographs I have taken, were featured on the front cover of a classical magazine alongside popular magazines such as 'Classic fM' or 'BBC Music' , then my magazine would share the similar sophisticated and attractive house style and stunning image.
